There’s a lot to be said for kissing 2016 goodbye and moving on, an extraordinarily divisive election with a troubling result being at the top of the list. But as year end approached I was cheered on by an email from Strava that chronicled the collective athletic achievement of the world’s users of its running/biking app. Here are some numbers:
304 million activities
6.8 billion kilometers
3 summits of Mt. Everest
1 runner who crossed US averaging 72 miles per day
40 athletes who logged an event every day
80,000 users who biked to work on Bike to Work Day
All great stuff! I was also interested/amused to see my personal running stats for the year.
124 runs
17 miles per week
900 miles
Just under 170 hours running
121,000 feet of elevation gain
That last number blew me away. I knew I’d done a lot of uphill, and I’m sure Urban and others did more, but 120K feet of elevation gain? That’s crazy — the equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest four times! Very excited and proud of that! And congrats to anyone and everyone who pushed their limits this year!
